Spotify has to reach a deal with them in order to host their catalog. Working in the music industry for the past 15 years labels ultimately control Spotify’s destiny. Yes they provide a service and I have been a subscriber for 8+ years, have my own podcast on it, but nothing is owned by them. I don’t suggest Spotify as Spotify has no product. They're offering a more complicated, more ad-riddled, more expensive option to something that's already free and easy. Their podcast plan is the opposite of what made them successful. They became #1 in music because they offered people an easier, practical, money-saving option when it comes to listening to music. Personally I never use Spotify for podcasts and I don't plan to even once Rogan becomes exclusive. They get away with paying musicians next to nothing and they'll do it with podcasters too so I think podcasters won't want to use that platform. The top names in the game will make good money but all of the other people with podcasts will actually make less on Spotify. Then they take free podcasts, put on a platform with worse user interface than the podcast app, slap extra advertising in there, and force people to either pay for premium or use their cell phone data to listen on the go when not tethered to wifi.

They're paying hundreds of millions of dollars for something that's free. I think the podcasting route they're taking is going to screw them over.
